Dr Ranjan Malhotra is an eminent Periodontist in the region and a renowned academician. He did his graduation from Buddha Institute of Dental Sciences, Patna and Master’s degree (MDS) from Govt. Dental College and hospital, Patiala in the subject of Periodontology. After Post graduation he chose to serve in the field of academics. With more than twenty five years of experience, he has worked in various capacities in different dental colleges and trained budding dentists and post graduates to become successful dental practitioners, thereby serving the community. He is an active member of Indian Society of Periodontics. He has also been Executive Committee member and served as Joint secretary as well. He has numerous publications in various indexed national and international journals to his credit. He is a well renowned speaker and has delivered numerous guest lectures at various platforms.
He is a visionary, excellent with his work and is keen to provide quality education to aspiring students enabling them to meet patient’s needs. He also strives to create centre of excellence in the field of dentistry by imparting quality education to the budding dentist.
Dr. Gurminder Singh, MDS, Vice Principal, is a renowned Prosthodontist and a clinician par excellence. He graduated from K.L.E. Institute of dental Sciences, Belgaum in 1996. He has done his post graduation in the specialty of Prosthodontics and Implantology from Bapuji Dental College and Hospital, Davangere, for which he was awarded the best outgoing student of the batch. He has number of national and international publications in reputed journals to his credit and has participated in various national and international conferences till date. He is an active member of Indian Prosthodontic Society. He has been PG guide to post graduate students and worked on various researches. He has been guest speaker at various platform at number of dental conferences.
Oral medicine deals with clinical diagnosis of various diseases involving mouth as well as the head and neck region. This may include developmental disorders, musculoskeletal disorders, metabolic disorders, and neurological disorders affecting the structure and function of oral cavity. It also includes management of oral diseases using non-operative procedures mostly drugs, often requiring a multidisciplinary approach.
Oral radiology involves different techniques of image acquisition necessary for diagnosis of oro-facial disorders. It involves training in radiographic techniques such as intraoral radiography, occlusal radiography, cephalometric diagnosis, panoramic radiography, skull radiography, and sialography.The scope also extends into the field of forensic sciences and radiation oncology.
Department of Prosthodontics, Crown and Bridge provides replacements of lost teeth, associated structures and artificial substitutes for oral and maxillofacial parts. It provides restoration of oral function through prostheses and restorations like removable complete dentures, partial dentures including cast partial dentures, crowns & bridges, maxillofacial prosthesis, implant retained/supported restorations to rehabilitate and maintain the oral function, comfort, appearance and health of patients.
This department deals with procedures which restores carious and fractured teeth. Conservative Dentistry deals with the treatment and rehabilitation of diseased, defective or fractured teeth, including Cosmetic / Aesthetic corrections of teeth and treatment of dentin hypersensitivity. Endodontics deals with root canal treatment, regenerative endodontics & periapical surgeries. The department has its own dedicated laboratory for casting work in metal ceramic restorations. Pre-clinical training is provided on phantom heads/ typhodonts using micro-motors and airotors
Oral Maxillofacial & Pathology is a branch of dentistry which includes dental anatomy, histology, embryology & oral pathology. This branch deals with histopathology, cytopathology and various hematological investigations. The ulcers, lumps, red and white lesions and other suspicious lesions of the oral cavity are evaluated for the presence of pathologies including cancer, describing type of tumor and grading of the lesion. This department works in close association with department of Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine and Endodontics for spearheading a community oral cancer diagnosis and screening program.
This department caters to diagnosing and treating gum diseases affecting the tooth and jaw. This department deals with procedures like ultrasonic dental scaling, flap surgery, bone grafting procedures which restore gum health, and dental implants. It also deals with treatment of dentin hypersensitivity. Thus promoting the benefits of periodontal health by providing high quality clinical education and authoritative scientific information on Periodontics
This department deals with diagnosis & treatment of all kinds of oro-dental ailments in children from infants till 13 years of age. This department provides the treatment for pain, sensitivity and dental caries through various procedures like restorations, pulpotomy, pulpectomy and extractions. It also provides preventive treatments like pit and fissure sealants, flouride application and space maintainers for the maintenance of dental hygiene. This department also works in close association with the Orthodontics department , to diagnose and monitor growth related problems of children.
All kind of extractions, third molar surgeries, peri-apical surgeries, biopsy, cyst enucleations , etc. are done by experienced Oral & Maxillofacial surgeons and dental surgeons. Also patients with facial and dento-alveolar infections, ulcers , lumps and growths in the oral cavity and as well as in the head & neck regions are treated in this department. The department also deals with the evaluation and management of patients suffering from maxillofacial trauma, diagnosis & surgical management of acquired and developmental dento-facial deformities and patients with cleft lip and palates.
This Department deals with facial, skeletal and dental deformities to impart comprehensive orthodontic treatment which includes orthodontic diagnosis, case selection , fixed appliance treatment, removable appliance fabrication, management of simple dental malocclusion with removable appliances, surgical Orthodontics and management of TMJ disorders.
Public Health Dentistry is the art and science of prevention of oral disease, thereby promoting oral health care and raising the standards of life through the organized efforts of society. The department imparts a customized oral health education and dietary counseling by organizing different awareness programmes at regular time interval, like celebration of WORLD AIDS Day, Tooth Brushing Day, World Oral Health Day, etc. and other oral health programmes like School Dental Health Programmes, which are also supported by different social service organizations.
Gian Sagar Dental College & Hospital also has a well established Tobacco Cessation Centre. In this centre, the house surgeons are trained to counsel tobacco users. This centre raises awareness on the risk posed by tobacco chewing, smoking and second-hand smoke exposure. Patients are counselled and are informed about the ill effects of tobacco on the oral and general health of the people. Patients are registered, monitored, and records are maintained for their follow up on improvement. On the occasion of World No Tobacco Day i.e. 31st May, the centre conducts seminars and lectures to spread the awareness.
The Dental Library is Located on the ground floor of Gian Sagar Dental College& Hospital. It has 5886 Sq. feet areaand an additional area of 5438 sq. feet. for outside reading, Faculty Reading Room and store & stocking room in the basement of Library. Thus the total service area comes to 11324 Sq.ft.It provides a good ambience and free from noise.
The Library has Text and reference books as well as journals. All the library facilities and services are supported by qualified and efficient staff members who provide information service to the users. It is also made available to the end users with in campus. All library operational services have been automated using windows based Technology.
The Campus has got separate boys and girls hostels. The hostels have got a common room facility with dining rooms having ample capacity and also a common room for TV viewing and indoor games facility. The rooms are well ventilated. The institute has also got playgrounds for hockey, cricket, football, badminton, volleyball, tennis etc. There is a spacious mess which can accommodate more than 200 people at a time for breakfast, lunch, dinner etc with separate seating arrangements for faculty, staff and students. There is 24 hrs security provided to these hostels for the safety of students. A 24 hrs electricity and water supply is also available in the campus.
